NOCHE FLAMENCA
with Soledad Barrio

The acclaimed Spanish troupe Noche Flamenca will bring their pure, raw, authentic brand of flamenco to the intimate setting of Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz. The company, led by flamenco phenomenon Soledad Barrio, will present a rich combination of baile, cante and guitarra, with all the flair, passion and precision that has captivated their audiences for the past 10 years.

Under the direction of Martin Santangelo and accompanied by Spain’s finest guitarists, singers and dancers – including Juan Ogalla and Antonio Rodriguez (dancers), “El ChupeteManuel Gago, Emilio Florido and Trini De La Isla (singers), Miguel Perez Garcia and Jose Valle Fajardo Chuscales” (guitarists) – Soledad Barrio will travel the peaks and valleys of love, betrayal, passion, arousal and union in program combing the most traditional flamenco dances, songs and music.

Born of passion and desire, Noche Flamenca was founded in Madrid in 1993 by artistic director Martín Santangelo and his Bessie award-winning wife Soledad Barrio. Through years of persistence, hard work and love, Noche Flamenca has developed into one of Spain's most successful flamenco companies. Since the beginning, its goal has been to maintain the essence, purity and integrity of one of the world's most complex and mysterious art forms. The company relies on the high standards of its artists as well as their profound understanding of flamenco. All aspects of flamenco; dance, song and music, are interrelated and given equal weight, creating a true communal spirit within the company, which is the very heart and soul of flamenco.

Noche Flamenca's vitality, energy and passion have won accolades around the world, with raves and standing ovations in Egypt, United States, Canada, Australia, Portugal and Spain. Performance highlights in North America include Berkeley’s Cal Performances, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, the Ravinia Festival, the American Dance Festival, Wolf Trap, and the Hollywood Bowl, among others.

“Noche Flamenca…[is] rawly emotional…it’s a smoothly constructed and pleasurable evening of impassioned, keening song; welling guitars; and the intricate tattoos of footwork and sinuous lines fashioned by the dancers.” – NY Times

“If you need to be reminded of what the real deal looks and sounds like, head to […] the concerts featuring the marvelous Soledad Barrio, one of the great performers of our time.” – NY Times

“Her (Barrio's) technique is flawless, her feet faster than any woman, her turns and arms and arched back, perfection. She seems to channel the struggle of all women through her tiny perfectly chiseled body and allows us to watch as she exorcises the pain and suffering. No tricks, no artifice, no faking, this is Flamenco." – Dance Insider
