Sophie Lukacs Trio

Sophie Lukacs is a Budapest-born, Montreal-based musician, singer, and composer who brings a uniquely captivating sound to the stage. Trained in classical violin from a young age, she discovered the West African kora—a 21-stringed harp-lute—during an internship in Burkina Faso and later studied with renowned masters such as Toumani Diabaté and Habib Koité in Mali. Her music blends Mandingue traditions with folk, pop, and classical influences, and she performs with cello and percussion, singing in English, French, Hungarian, and Bambara. Lukacs’s debut album Bamako was awarded Global Roots Album of the Year at the 2024 Canadian Folk Music Awards. Her performance at TRK highlights her rich musical voice and deep connection to world music traditions, creating an immersive experience that resonates across cultures.

For the sixteenth consecutive year, the Consulate General of Belgium, the Quebec Government Office in Los Angeles, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the Consulates General of Switzerland and of France, Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, and Theatre Raymond Kabbaz present A Week of French Language Cinema, featuring nightly screenings of critically acclaimed French‑language films from March 19–23. The series is organized annually to coincide with the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF)’s celebration of the French language and Francophone culture on March 20, making it the perfect showcase for presenting the artistry of French‑language voices from around the world.
