En 1944, lorsque Mary Chase écrit Harvey, c’est un triomphe. La journaliste et dramaturge américaine obtient le prestigieux prix Pulitzer. À Broadway, la pièce se joue pendant cinq ans sans interruption. Au cinéma, elle est immortalisée par l’interprétation de James Stewart. On l’adapte maintes fois pour la télévision. Aujourd’hui, tous les Anglo-Saxons connaissent la folle histoire d’Elwood et de son ami extraordinaire que les autres ne voient pas… En dépit de cet engouement, l’œuvre est restée à peu près inconnue en France.

Pourtant, c’est un drôle de conte, une farce désopilante et sombre, un voyage entre salon bourgeois et asile d’aliénés; une comédie riche en quiproquos, loufoque et touchante, qui interroge en creux notre rapport à la norme : qui est le fou ? Pour le savoir, une seule question : avez-vous vu Harvey ?

Since 1992 La Troupe du Theatre Raymond Kabbaz has been entertaining French speakers in Los Angeles with an annual theatre performance. After a 3-year Pandemic hiatus, the French theatre group returns to perform the American comedy classic, HARVEY, in French!

The Pulitzer Prize-winning play follows the story of Elwood P. Dowd, who insists on including his friend Harvey in all of his sister Veta’s social gatherings. The trouble is, Harvey is a pooka, a 6 ft 3+1⁄2 inch tall invisible rabbit.

To avoid future embarrassment for her family—and especially for her daughter, Myrtle Mae—Veta decides to have Elwood committed to a sanitarium. When they arrive at the sanitarium, a comedy of errors ensues.
