French Animation Fest

French Animation Fest is a key annual event celebrating French eclecticism and know-how. France is the world's third-largest animation producer, behind only the United States and Japan.

Over the course of an evening, audiences are transported into a universe where animation is the universal language of contemporary creativity. The festival offers a wide range of animated shorts with an array of artistic styles, techniques and themes. From poignant tales to daring visual explorations, each film is an artistic nugget offering its own immersive experience, moving from laughter to tears and from deep thoughts to levity.

In collaboration with the Consulates General of Switzerland, France, Belgium, Canada, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the Quebec Government Office in Los Angeles, and Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles present A Week of French Language Cinema, with nightly screenings of critically acclaimed French language films.

Alexander’s Grandfather is played by veteran French actor Jean Reno (“Leon”, “Le Grand Bleu”) .

In this ambitious compilation of eight short, animated films by French filmmakers, TRK showcases the medium’s unlimited expressive potential that not even the magic of special effects can provide, as audiences are taken on a journey into real and imagined worlds far from the here and now. Animation Fest is presented on International Animation day, a global event which celebrates the art of animation, originally invented in the 1920s as a response to other forms of abstract art. At its origin, early animated films aimed to induce in the viewers' an emotional reaction solely through rhythm, motion, shapes and light.

Celebrated on the International Day of Animation, ANIMATION FEST at TRK showcases a diversity of creative expression featuring three out of seven shorts directed by women, and all shorts revealing a technical virtuosity with animation techniques like stop motion animation, 3D animation rendered in 2D, puppetry, paper cut-outs and graphic design inspired by Japanese manga.

A Night of French Short Films

Showcasing a wide variety of stories and styles, the screening is a selection of short films chosen from 2020’s nominees at the César (French Oscars), Clermont Ferrand Short Film Festival and other selected short film festivals. Discover the most creative and innovative French filmmakers!

The evening’s format will be presented in two one-hour-long programs with a 15-minute intermission, which will include complimentary wine and cheese tasting.

Most of us know how to feed children in a healthy way, but what do we know about raising healthy brains? What kinds of experiences are important to provide to children? How does the brain learn? If we really want children to master their lives, we need to teach them how to handle their brains!

The program includes notable films from Switzerland, Burkina Faso, Canada, France, Quebec and Belgium. All films include subtitles in English. All screenings are preceded by receptions.
